Newspaper is Dead

How long will it take for someone at “the Daily Oklahoman” to realize this and stop trying to get me to buy a paper. In the past month I’ve had 3 telemarketer calls (after begging them to take me off the list), a school boy come to my door with a very sad story about not being able to go to space camp unless I bought a subscription, and today an offer in the mail for a 7 piece grill set if I subscribe.

Knock it off!

Jott: Remind Yourself and Everyone Else

Two Sundays ago I was whining to Jim Meldrim, our Lifegroups pastor (yes Geeks go to church) and instead of giving me the “call me to remind me” schpeal, he whips out his cell phone, hits the speed dial and says, “Myself… Ask IT about wireless access for Bert.” and hung up.

What Jim had done was to call a service called Jott.com, recorded a message and it sent a reminder to his email. I immediately created an account, and started recording.

With Jott you can send yourself reminders to your email, phone or both. And, if you add contacts you can send reminders to their email and/or phone too. And – there’s more- you can arrange some or all of those contacts into a group and send them a message all at once.

We’ve got a group of people that meet at our house every Thurs night. All of them use their email and personal phones differently. So, I just built a group using their mobile phones and email addresses and notified everyone at once.

The system seems to be using a voice recognition software that isn’t 100% accurate but I’ve never seen it miss more than a letter or two.
