My 15 Minutes (less than 30 seconds)

I got on Buzz Out Loud this week. Show number 756

Buzz Out Loud is a very popular technews podcast (Internet Based Radio/TV show). I was listen to the show one afternoon last week and they mentioned a problem with surfing the web, mistyped URLs, I had a tip on how to correct it so I skyped their number, left a message and they put it in the Listener Feedback section.

The conversation was on Top Level Domains (.com, .us, .tv, .info, .net, .org) and how it is easy to mistype .ocm instead of .com at the end of the URL (Universal Resource Locator ex: http://www.yahoo.com). Molly said someone should register .ocm as a top level domain that mirrors all the websites on .com so when someone types .ocm they’d be redirected to the .com site. It was a joke because it is a very complicated fix for a simple typo, but I called to remind them that the OpenDNS service already does this. All you have to do is change your DNS settings in your network properties and sign up for an OpenDNS account and it figures out your typos and sends you to the correct page.
